The Department of Foreign Affairs Ireland invited textile artists from around the world to contribute individual artworks in response to St Brigid. 40 artworks came from a range of locations including Abuja, Budapest, Cairo, Kiev, Shanghai and Mumbai (Michelle Boyle). These works were assembled and displayed in The Irish Emigration Museum in Dublin.
‘Rose Anne and the women of St Brigid’s Camogie Club’ celebrates the friendship and resilience of rural Irish women. It also considers their exclusion from Ministry in the Catholic Church, presenting them as onlookers in the tracery of a church window. Rose Anne is grandmother to the artist’s children and the piece is Boyle’s tribute to this woman ahead of her time. Rose Anne’s camogie team trained on the banks of the Erne River in Co Cavan Ireland. The piece is in recognition of these strong women in life and sport, past, present and future.
