Michelle Boyle is interested in the ethnographic accounts and local histories relating to contained freshwater in the landscape and the tradition of water veneration as observed at Holy Wells in Ireland. Her essay ‘The Holy Wells of Co Cavan’ draws on the locality where she lives and has her studio base. Her ongoing Water Conversations are informed by her acadaemic background in Cultural Anthropology (BA) and Landscape Archaeology (MA) and include stories and water samples from Holy Wells around Ireland including those dedicated to St Brigid. In this painting the artist responds to her local holy well and the female and regenerative energy it holds for her.
