RUTH BORCHARD COLLECTION – Highly Commended Works include Michelle Boyle’s painting ‘Bog, Lake, Swim’ online view May 17 – September 30th
I am delighted to see painter Lucy Jones win this round of the self portrait prize and her response to the news as seen here in the Vimeo link. Her painting is an honest observation of her ageing self, a luminous and positive work.
My selected work ‘Bog Lake Swim’ was done during the Covid travel lock down, seeing myself floating in the local lake in Mullagh, Cavan, Ireland, feeling both held down and numbingly liberated. The full gallery of highly commended works can be seen at the link to end.
‘The artworks on display have been selected by the 2021 Prize Judging Panel for their creative and distinguished contribution to the genre.’ The panel of judges this year included the BBC Arts Editor Will Gompertz, the Director of the Science Museum Sir Ian Blatchford, High Court Judge Mrs Justice Cheema Grubb, renowned gallerist Victoria Miro, the 2019 Ruth Borchard Self-Portrait Prize winner David Dawson and Ruth Borchard’s son Richard Borchard.
