The studio is self contained with its own entrance and is part of the converted out buildings of the former Garryross Primary School est 1958. A distinctive architectural characteristic of these outbuildings is the original water where a darkroom is currently being developed .Self catering accommodation in the school house can be arranged or with local guesthouse providers.
The ‘Watershed Studios’ are located close to Lough Ramor and Lough Sheelin, within the catchment of two significant river courses- The Blackwater / Boyne river flowing east to the Irish Sea and the Shannon flowing west to the Atlantic. The Loughcrew Hills are visible from the studio, their Neolithic monuments alongside Newgrange and Bru Na Boinne are collectively termed the ‘largest open art gallery in Europe’ due to their rock carvings.
Public transport is available from Dublin & Dublin Airport – Virginia with pick up available. A car is advisable for residential artists and recommendations can be given on local rentals . A bike is available at the studio.
The original Garryross school building is now the family home of artist Michelle Boyle who has a separate studio on location. Michelle is a full time professional artist x 20 years with a practice exploring identity and place. She delivers painting workshops with national cultural institutions and environmental art workshops in the landscape with a focus on freshwater. One to one mentoring in oil / watercolour/ acrylic painting can be arranged depending on availibility.
